A milling cutter is a rotating tool with one or more teeth used for milling. During operation, each cutter tooth intermittently cuts away the excess of the workpiece. End mills are mainly used for processing planes, steps, grooves, forming surfaces and cutting workpieces on milling machines.
According to different functions, milling cutters can be divided into:
Flat end mill:
Also known as light end mill. It is often used for semi-finishing and finishing of planes, side planes, grooves and mutually perpendicular step surfaces. The more edges the end mill has, the better the finishing effect will be.
Ball end mill: Because the blade shape is spherical, it is also called an R end mill. It is often used for semi-finishing and finishing of various curved surfaces and arc grooves.
Round nose end mill:
It is mostly used to process right-angled step surfaces or grooves with R angles, and is mostly used for semi-finishing and finishing.
End mill for aluminum:
It is characterized by large rake angle, large back angle (sharp teeth), large spiral, and good chip removal effect.
T-shaped groove milling cutter:
Mainly used for T-shaped groove and side groove processing.
Chamfering milling cutter:
Mainly used for chamfering the inner hole and appearance of the mold. The chamfering angles are 60 degrees, 90 degrees and 120 degrees.
Internal R milling cutter:
Also known as concave arc end mill or reverse R ball cutter, it is a special milling cutter mostly used for milling convex R-shaped surfaces.
Countersunk head milling cutter:
Mostly used for processing hexagon socket screws, mold ejector pins, and mold nozzle countersunk holes.
Slope cutter:
Also known as taper cutter, it is mostly used for taper processing after ordinary blade processing, mold draft allowance processing and dimple processing. The slope of the tool is measured in degrees on one side.
Dovetail groove milling cutter:
Shaped like a swallow’s tail, it is mostly used for processing dovetail groove surface workpieces.
